Hello 8th grade Ralston Families!  9th grade registration sheets will be going home with your students on Tuesday, March 19, 2019.  All registration sheets are due back to your child’s homeroom teacher by Monday, March 25, 2019.  The registration sheets are double sided with the CORE classes listed on one side and the elective choices on the other. Test placement scores are printed on the registration sheets as well (MDTP, GMRT, Let’s Go Learn, etc).  If your child will not be attending an SUHSD school next year, please mark that on the form.  If you have an acceptance letter to a private school that your child will be attending next year, please attach a copy of that letter to the registration sheet upon return to the homeroom teacher; Carlmont will drop your child from their enrollment process.

You will find a wealth of information on the Carlmont Website as well, just follow the links below:

Join us for an informative evening with guest speaker, Mary Hofstedt, from Challenge Success!

Mary will be delivering the "Well-Balanced Student" presentation to Ralston parents on Monday, March 25, 2019 from 6:30pm – 8pm in the MUR. This event is open to all members of our BRSSD parent community.

Summary of presentation:

When we are too focused on grades and performance, we deny our children time and energy they need to tackle the demanding work of growing up. In this presentation, you'll learn how you can establish a healthier home environment, reduce academic stress without sacrificing achievement and increase your children's resilience, creativity, and well being. The presentation will also offer a brief discussion of "how and why fit matters” in regards to the college experience.

The presentation may not be recorded without prior written approval from Challenge Success.

For more information on Challenge Success, please go to:

Mary Hofstedt, Ed.M., is the Community Education Director for Challenge Success, a not-for-profit organization affiliated with the Stanford University Graduate School of Education that partners with schools, families, and communities to promote a broad definition of success and to implement research-based strategies so that all kids are healthy and engaged with learning. She has an extensive background in curriculum and program design, positive youth development, facilitation of community-wide initiatives to benefit youth, and social science research. She is the parent of a recent high school graduate and is passionate about working with others to ensure our young people thrive.

What is the Walkabout Program?

The Ralston Rams Walkabout program is a NEW school supported, parent staffed program that provides a positive adult presence on campus during the lunch recess hour (12:10 - 1:05pm).  Ralston is a growing campus and the additional adult presence on campus is designed to promote citizenship and discourage inappropriate behavior.  It also gives parents the opportunity to volunteer in an area that directly impacts their child by helping to keep the middle school campus feeling safe and secure for everyone.  We are kicking off the program with our 7/8 graders and would MOST welcome our 6th grade families to sign up and help us make this a successful program.

How do I sign up?

All volunteers must first have their clearance with the school on file and TB certification.

What do I do when I show up?

Stop by the office, sign in and grab a "Volunteer" badge and a clipboard- this helps identify you as a Walkabout volunteer to students and staff. Third, Walkabout!

Is there help for first-timers?

Yes! We are happy to go over the program with you and you can even partner up the first time.  If a partner isn't available, just identify yourself as a first-timer in the office.  They love your participation and they will help you out!

Do I need to attend training to volunteer?

No. There is no formal requirement to participate. However, we'd like to make sure first-timers hear first-hand a couple "rules of the road" from an experienced volunteer.

What if I witness something strange/inappropriate/dangerous?

We have great kids and "situations" are very rare. However, it is important

to understand that it is NOT your job to resolve any situation. Rather, you are there to report it. Please let the school administrators know directly and they will take care of the situation. Your job is to just be a positive presence - to smile! - and watch over the kids.

Are there any "dos and don'ts?"

Do be a positive presence, do encourage kids to pick up after themselves at lunch.  Don't intervene in any situations that may come up. Rather, just report them.

Sign ip to volunteer here!

The Ralston School Counseling Department is beginning to recruit professionals from the community to participate in our third annual Career Fair to be held in the Spring! We are looking for professionals in varying careers to share their real life experiences and information pertaining to their careers. This is a valuable event where students are able to ask questions and learn more information about careers they may or may not want to pursue. We are really looking forward to this event but do need some support in finding professionals. Therefore, if you know of anyone who might be interested in this opportunity or you are interested, please notify either Shannon Smoot or Christian Mach.
