Welcome to Ralston Middle School
A California Distinguished School
Ralston Middle School serves all sixth through eighth grade students in the Belmont/Redwood Shores School District. During the 2010-2011 school year we anticipate an enrollment of approximately 940 students. The Ralston staff provides a strong California standards-based instructional program. Every Ralston student receives instruction in the core subjects of language arts, history/social science, mathematics, science, physical education and health education. All students may select from a wide variety of elective classes.
Ralston students have the opportunity to participate in numerous extra-curricular activities. A comprehensive after-school sports program supported by School-Force provides team sports experiences in golf, basketball, cross-country, volleyball, tennis, and track and field. After school tutorial classes and homework groups are available three days per week for all grades. The PTA sponsors a diverse selection of clubs based on student and teacher interest. The clubs meet after school and are offered for a minimal fee. Our student body has an active student government, which sponsors spirit days, dances and other school wide activities.

Schedule Changes:
Due to our increased enrollment and staffing changes, we have been busy adjusting our master schedule and course offerings. Unfortunately some of our elective classes have been dropped and new ones have been added.
Through the first 3 weeks of school, we will be balancing classes. As we determine exact enrollment numbers there is a possibility that some student’s schedules will need to be changed for various reasons.
Please note: We do not make schedule changes for the following reasons:
· Teacher preference
· Period preference
· To be with friends
· Elective changes
We appreciate in advance your patience and understanding of our scheduling process to ensure all students are placed appropriately and equitably in classes.
Parking Lot Safety:
In an effort to address safety concerns and to improve traffic flow at Ralston, we are asking for your help. Our parking lot is quite small and gets congested in the morning and afternoons. Please adhere to the 5 mph speed limit and refrain from using cell phones while driving in our parking lot to ensure the safety of all our students arriving to and leaving from Ralston each day. Please be aware that you can ONLY make right turns out of the parking lot between the hours of 8:00 a.m. - 8:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. Please do not stop or idle your vehicle along the red curbs or in the bus pickup/drop off area.
