Welcome to Ralston Middle School
A California Distinguished School
Ralston Middle School serves all sixth through eighth grade students in the Belmont/Redwood Shores School District. During the 2011-2012 school year we anticipate an enrollment of approximately 1000 students. The Ralston staff provides a strong California standards-based instructional program. Every Ralston student receives instruction in the core subjects of language arts, history/social science, mathematics, science, physical education and health education. All students may select from a wide variety of elective classes.
Ralston students have the opportunity to participate in numerous extra-curricular activities. A comprehensive after-school sports program supported by School-Force provides team sports experiences in golf, basketball, cross-country, volleyball, tennis, and track and field. After school tutorial classes and homework groups are available three days per week for all grades. The PTA sponsors a diverse selection of clubs based on student and teacher interest. The clubs meet after school and are offered for a minimal fee. Our student body has an active student government, which sponsors spirit days, dances and other school wide activities.

Ralston’s Incoming 6th Grade Parent Information Night
When Wednesday, May 16, 2012
6:30 – 8:30 PM (doors open at 6:00 PM)
Where: Ralston Multi-Use Room (MUR)
Who: Parents only of in-coming 2012-13 6th graders
Are you and your 5th grader excited or anxious (or both!) about being a part of Ralston next year? Please join us for a 2-part information night about the transition to middle school.
First, join an informal panel discussion with some of this year’s 6th graders. You can hear straight from current students how they made the transition and what they found rewarding/challenging. You will have the opportunity to ask the current 6th graders questions about their middle school experiences.
Then (at approximately 7:30) hear the psychological perspective from Julie Norton, MFTi, Program Director at the Cleo Eulau Center. Julie will talk about what is going on developmentally as your child enters middle school (puberty, brain development, fitting in, focusing on friends) and some of the challenges your child will face (new friends, a changing schedule with multiple teachers, a larger pool of peers). She’ll also talk about what the transition is like for YOU as a parent and how you can support your child in a strength-based way to build their resilience.
If you have any questions about the event, or if you’d like to submit any questions for the panel ahead of time, please email Nancy Jung, Ralston PTA Vice President, at cincinnance@comcast.net.
