Tuesday, December 10, 7:00 PM at Ralston Middle School
Please join us as we welcome David Foster, Executive Director of the Silicon Valley Mathematics Initiative and advisor to the Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium, for an informational evening about our Transition to the Common Core State Standards. In addition to mentoring over 50 school districts in the greater Bay Area in their transition to the CCSS, Mr. Foster also works closely with large school districts from around the country, including the New York City, Chicago, Portland, and Atlanta public school districts. Mr. Foster will share an insider's view of the Common Core State Standards for Mathematics and the new Smarter Balanced assessments, and will address such topics as the landscape of the CCSS, what to expect as the assessments approach, rigor, and acceleration. Hosted by Ralston Middle School, this is a district-wide event. We welcome parents from both our elementary and middle school communities. Refreshments will be served at 6:30 p.m. The presentation will run from 7:00 - 8:00 p.m., followed by a Question and Answer period from 8:00 - 8:30 p.m.
We realize that Carlmont is also having a Common Core presentation this same evening. If your questions about the CCSS are specific to Carlmont then that might be the better presentation for you. If you wish to understand the new CCSS for Mathematics in great detail from the point of view of one of the most informed and involved math experts on this subject on a national level then the Ralston presentation might be the better presentation for you.
