Improv Art

Location: MUR (multi-use room)

Start time: 3:00pm

End time:  3:45pm

What to bring/wear

• Wear clothes that you don’t mind getting charcoal/pastels on as you create your artwork. 

• Do not bring any art supplies (they will be provided at the event).

Event Format: 

There are two rounds: Mystery Tri-Word and Portrait Sketch.  

For each round, you will have the following supplies:

• Drawing paper

• Drawing pencils

• Charcoal sticks

• Colored soft pastels

Mystery Tri-Word Challenge - Three mystery words will be revealed.  You will have 15 minutes to create a drawing illustrating one or more of the mystery words.  You can focus only on one word, or on multiple words.  The number of words you use will not factor into the judging.

Portrait Sketch Challenge - You will be given a photograph of another participant.  You will have 15 minutes to sketch a portrait of the other participant using that photograph.

Art will be judged on creativity, level of detail and use of color.  There will be awards for different categories.

Rules:

• You may use a single sheet of drawing paper for each piece of art.  We have extra paper, in case you want to start over.

• You can use any/all of the provided art supplies for your artwork: drawing pencils, charcoal sticks, soft pastels in assorted colors.  You cannot bring in and use any other art supplies.

• All content must be school-appropriate.

• You may not copy anyone else’s artwork.

• Be sure to write your name legibly on the back of your artwork.

• Your name cannot appear anywhere on the front of your artwork.
