This year (2024), Ralston will be holding its first-ever Parent-Student Olympics. The Parent-Student Olympics is a series of friendly competitions between Ralston parents and current Ralston students. The events will span athletic, academic, and artistic activities. All current Ralston students and parents are invited to participate.
Know Before You Go
On Olympics Day, keep the following in mind:
Wear event-appropriate clothing
Check the event details for the events you are participating in to see what clothes - especially shoes - are event-appropriate. This is to ensure your safety and to protect the school facilities. You are encouraged to wear Ralston apparel whenever possible!
Do NOT be late
We are holding several events in a small amount of time. Many parents and students are participating in multiple events. This means that we cannot wait for any participants when it is their turn. A few days before Olympics Day, each participant will receive an email with their specific start times for the events they are participating in. You are responsible for being at the event site and announcing yourself when your name is called (ideally be there 5-10 minutes early to be safe). If we cannot see/hear you when we call your name, you will be automatically be skipped and disqualified.
Double-check event location and time
This will help you not be late 🙂 Check the Olympics map so you know where your event will be taking place, and go to the event meeting spot a few minutes before your designated event time in case you have trouble finding the event leader.
Beware the 12:20pm rush hour
Wed is early dismissal, which means all BRSSD schools dismiss at 12:20pm. At Ralston, this means there will be heavy traffic in the parking lot from 12:20pm until 12:40pm. If you are driving to Ralston, plan to arrive either before 12:20pm (if you have 1pm events), or after 12:40pm (if you don’t have 1pm events).
Park on nearby streets
Parking in the Ralston parking lot will be very limited. Consider parking on an adjacent street (Tahoe Dr or Davis Dr) and walking to Ralston. Be sure to give yourself extra time to walk to Ralston.
Keep track of your belongings
We do not have a place to store your jackets, backpacks, bags, etc. Please make sure all of your belongings have your name on them, and keep a close eye on them as best you can. After the event, we will put whatever we find into a Lost and Found box, but better to not lose it to begin with!
You can watch any event
The Ralston Olympics is open to the entire Ralston community. You are welcome to attend to watch any event, to cheer on your fellow classmates, parents, etc. Please be supportive and respectful with your cheering, and do not interfere with the event.
Staying for awards ceremony is optional
All students will receive a participation prize. Medals are awarded to top-performing students and parents in all events. If you are not present to receive your prize/medal, we will keep it for you and give it to you at another time.

Frequently-Asked Questions
When and where are the Parent-Student Olympics?
All events will be held at Ralston Middle School. The exact dates are still TBD. The competitions will be held across several days, likely in late April (potentially early May). Once we have a better idea of how many participants we have, we will try to find dates and times that accommodate the most number of registered participants (especially parents).
Do I need to sign up with my child?
No. We have separate sign-ups for students and parents. Your child can participate on their own. Or you can participate on your own.
I don’t know if I (or my child) can participate until I know the exact date and time of the event. What do I do?
If you or your child is interested in participating in an event, please sign up for the event. We will try to accommodate as many schedules as we can, but if it turns out that the date/time doesn’t work for you, we can remove you from the participants list later.
How many events can a student sign up for?
A student can sign up for ONE event. This is to ensure that we can accommodate all students who want to participate in a given event. When you sign up for the event, you can also indicate which events you want to be waitlisted for. If one of those events doesn’t have enough student participants, we will add you student to one additional of these additional events and notify you.
Do students need to be “good enough” to compete in an event?
We will make every effort to ensure that any student who wants to participate in an event, will have an opportunity to compete. Due to space, time, and equipment limitations, we will need to enforce a maximum number of participants for the parent vs student event.
Do parents need to be “good enough” to compete in an event?
We encourage as many parents to participate as possible. Events will be set up in a “parents vs students” format, so we want balanced representation on both sides. If you have even limited experience in a particular event, we encourage you to participate!
