Speed Maths
Location: MUR (multi-use room)
Start time: 1:30pm
End time: 2:00pm
What to bring:
You do not need to bring anything for this event.
Where to meet:
Go inside the MUR and find an empty seat. You must be seated by 1:30pm.
Event Format:
There are two 5-minute rounds. The first round is Simple Math, and the second round is Math Challenge.
For each round, you will be given a question packet. Answer as many questions as you can.
Simple Math round - Point values for each question vary between 1 and 3. You will lose a point for each incorrect answer.
Math Challenge round - Point values for each question vary between 5 and 15. You will lose a point for each incorrect answer.
Your final score is the sum across both rounds. The highest score is the winner. In case of tie, the participant who has the most correct answers wins.
Rules:
You will be given a stapled packet with a cover sheet. Do not flip over the cover sheet until the timer starts.
You will be given pencils and paper to use when solving the problems. Watches, phones, calculators, laptops, and any other electronic devices must not be visible during the competition.
For each round, you will have 5 minutes to complete as many questions in the packet as you can.
For each question, write the answer directly in the space provided in the packet.
The answer must be written neatly and legibly. If judges cannot read the answer or misinterpret the answer, it will be scored as incorrect.
You will get a warning when there is one minute left, another one when there are 30 seconds left, and then a final 10 second countdown.
When time is up, you must stop working, stand up, and put both hands in the air to show that you are not longer workingl. If you are not standing and your hands are not up when time is up, you may be disqualified.
